The “Brussels effect” of the GDPR is unquestionable, but is the EU at risk of losing its global impact? The GDPR has been seen as a “golden standard” worldwide, but can this be maintained if enforcement is not stepped up?
The panel aims at answering the following questions: are cooperation and consistency procedures also part of the GDPR model? Has there been any influence beyond the EU? Are those strengths of the GDPR contingent on the successful enforcement? If not, is the success story of the GDPR not dependant on enforcement? Is the GDPR’s perception globally based, among others, on its enforcement or not necessarily?
